世界貿易センターの悲劇からほぼ4年、オスカー受賞監督のオリバー・ストーンが、2001
年9月11日に瓦礫の中に閉じ込められた２人の警官の、実話に基く映画を製作することと
なった。

「リービング　ラス・ヴェガス」でオスカー最優秀男優賞を受賞したニコラス・ケイジが、
二棟のセンター崩壊後の救助作業中に、同僚のWilliam J. Jimenoと共に瓦礫の中に閉じ込
められた、港湾当局の巡査部長John McLoughlinに扮する。この映画は、パラマウント映
画社により来年公開される予定だ。

「この作品は、9月11日に起きた出来事への、人々の苦しみと真摯な瞑想、そして、傷を
癒そうとする深い同情の中から生まれるものなのです。」とストーン監督は語った。「我々

Nearly four years after the collapse of the World Trade Center, Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone will direct a film based on the story of two police officers who were trapped in the rubble on Sept. 11, 2001.
Nicolas Cage, who won a best-actor Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas," will star as Port Authority police Sgt. John McLoughlin. McLoughlin and fellow officer William J. Jimeno became trapped during rescue efforts after the collapse of the twin towers.
Paramount Pictures said the movie is expected to be released next year.
"It's a work of collective passion, a serious meditation on what happened and carries within a compassion that heals," Stone said in a statement Friday. "It's an exploration of heroism in our country but it's international at the same time in its humanity."
Paramount said the film also will focus on the officers' rescuers and their families. McLoughlin and Jimeno are said to be the last two men rescued.

"I feel someone had to tell the story of the people who were in the Trade Center before and after it collapsed," McLoughlin said in a statement. "It needs to be told how this horrific tragedy brought Americans and the world together to help those in need."

While the star power of Stone and Cage will likely make the movie the most high profile film to tackle 9/11, it's not the first. Many independent films have turned their lens to downtown New York, and in the 2002 film "The Guys" Anthony LaPaglia played a fire captain who lost eight men in the towers' collapse.
Stone has won best-director Oscars for "Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July." He also has directed "Alexander," "Nixon," "JFK" and "Wall Street."
Screen credits for Cage include "Adaptation," "City of Angels" and "Moonstruck."

Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman's production house has joined forces with Intel Corp. to form a digital entertainment company that will allow consumers to watch movies online before they come out on DVD.
The new company, ClickStar Inc., will launch next year, with undisclosed investments from Morgan's Revelations Entertainment and Intel, the world's No. 1 chipmaker.
The company was unveiled Wednesday by Freeman and Intel president and CEO Paul Otellini at investment bank Allen & Co.'s annual conference of media executives in Sun Valley, Idaho.
For an undetermined price, ClickStar will offer users premium, first-run movies before they're available on DVD -- and well before they normally would be available as part of the video-on-demand window. Under the conventional distribution system, movies that debut theatrically first play a DVD window before they are offered to online movie rental services. In addition, ClickStar will provide users access to Internet-only channels created by artists or other content owners.
"What we're setting up is a distribution platform strictly for the dissemination of film content," said Freeman, who will consult for the company. "It's probably later on that the studios might adopt it as a model and improve on it."
His Revelations partner, Lori McCreary, who will be chairman of the ClickStar board, added that she and Freeman were leveraging their industry relationships to assemble content for ClickStar and are aiming to begin distribution by next year. More announcements about specific deals for original and premium content will be revealed in the next six to eight weeks, they said. (Freeman has close ties with many top filmmakers, such as maverick Clint Eastwood, who directed him in "Million Dollar Baby," for which he won an Oscar this year, as well as studios like Warner Bros.)
"We'll be working both with independent filmmakers and studio content," McCreary said. "We've basically been speaking with our filmmaker friends and getting great feedback. We see it as a tremendous opportunity for everyone in the business."

Overall business tumbled despite a rush of familiar new titles "Bewitched," a "Love Bug" update and the latest zombie tale from director George Romero.
Revenues for the top 12 movies came in at $116.5 million, down 16 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Fahrenheit 9/11" opened as the top movie with $23.9 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
It was the 18th weekend in a row the box office declined, passing a 1985 slump of 17 weekends that had been the longest since analysts began keeping detailed figures on movie grosses.
"Batman" lifted its 12-day total to $121.7 million.
If the slump continues, Hollywood is on course for a third straight year of declining admissions and its lowest ticket sales since the mid-1990s.
"We're working with a pretty huge deficit that would take a lot of business to overcome," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "Just breaking the slump is not enough. We would have to reverse the trend and see attendance on a big uptick."

Producers of the upcoming movie based on the blockbuster novel "The Da Vinci Code" were not allowed to film in Britain's Westminster Abbey after church officials denounced the book as "theologically unsound."
The 940-year-old London Abbey, where British monarchs are crowned, features in the international murder mystery by U.S. author Dan Brown which has been condemned by the Vatican and Anglican Church leaders for distorting the Christian message.
The novel alleges Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children, whereas Christians are taught that Christ never married and was childless when he was crucified. "Although a real page turner, 'The Da Vinci code' is theologically unsound and we cannot commend or endorse the contentious and wayward religious and historic suggestions made in the book -- nor its views of Christianity and the New Testament," the Abbey said in a statement.
"It would therefore be inappropriate to film scenes from the book here."
Last week officials at Lincoln Cathedral in eastern England said they had agreed to allow their building to be used by the makers of the forthcoming film, which stars Tom Hanks as the book's central character Professor Robert Langdon.
The statement from Westminster Abbey, which appears in scenes toward the end of Brown's novel, also insisted some of the book's details were factually inaccurate.
It said it would be providing the Abbey's marshals with information to clear up the mistakes for visiting tourists drawn to the church by its appearance in The Da Vinci Code.
"We are already receiving regular, daily inquiries related to the book and we expect these to continue and even grow in the next couple of years, even with no effort on our own part, simply because the book is so popular," its statement said.
