新人監督Jonathan Liebesmanによりオーストラリアで撮影され、Chaney Kley、Emma Caulfieldという比較的知られていない俳優たちが主演しているため、この1,100万ドルという低予算でつくられた映画は公開に向けて殆ど話題にのぼらなかった。「観客たち、特に若いひとたちは怖い映画が好きだからね。その点この映画は十分に怖がらせることができる、楽しい作品だと思う。」とRevolutionのTom Sherakは成功の理由を述べた（プロデﾕｰｻｰの1人Williamは彼の息子である）Filmed in Australia by a rookie feature director (Jonathan Liebesman) with a relatively unknown cast (Chaney Kley, Emma Caulfield), the $11 million-budgeted "Darkness Falls" appeared to have little buzz going into the weekend. "People -- especially young people -- like to be scared, and I think the movie has enough scares to make it work. It's fun," said Tom Sherak, a principal at Revolution. (One of the film's credited producers was Sherak's son, William.)

Ain'it cool newsサイトによると、まだ秘密裏にではあるが、ジョージ・Ａ・ロメロの新作ゾンビ映画「DEAD RECKONING」の企画が20th Century Fox社内で持ち上がっているとのことである。最近のホラーブーム、そして確実にホラーファンが待ち望んでいるだろうことを考え、このロメロによるthe 4th LIVING DEAD FILMの企画が立ち上がったとのことだが、Joblo.comによれば、この情報は、望ましいものではあるが、真偽のほどは若干疑わしいとのことである。　..... the 4th LIVING DEAD FILM!!!! This is all hush-hush right now, but since horror is getting hotter these days, Fox decided to jump on the bandwagon by going with someone that horror fans truly stand behind.

純粋に楽しめるコメデｲｰ。この、人間の未成熟性を成熟した視点で捉えた映画は、機知に富んでいてスマート、しかも感傷に走ることなく心を暖かくしてくれる作品である。日々の生活の中で「笑い」はとても貴重だが、それでもコメデｲｰ映画は低く見られがちである。「アバウト・ア・ボーイ」は日々我々を苦しめる諸々の要素への強壮剤と言えるだろう。ヒュ―・グラントは、彼の限りない魅力をまたもや見せてくれた。
